Orange Textile, Pineapple Leather, H&M...100% eco-friendly by 2030
The dress of H&M, worn by Taiwanese actress Lin Zling at the third Global Change Award in Stockholm, Sweden, in March last year, drew attention from around the world.
This is because the dress material was made of orange peel. This special dress is made of 50% orange fiber and 50% organic silk.

Global fashion brand H&M recruits ideas for eco-friendly fashion at the annual Global Change Awards, with five winning teams receiving a total of 1 million euros in prize money. Orange fiber and vegetable leather made from waste after producing wine were the ideas that won the championship.
Orange Fiber is made by extracting cellulose from the orange peel that is discarded in the process of processing oranges.
H&M is introducing natural material fashion through its clothing line Conscientious Exclusive, which is based on eco-friendly materials and sustainability. Recently, the company has put on the market natural leather "Pinatex" jackets and boots made from orange textile dresses and fiber extracted from pineapple leaves.

According to H&M's "2018 Sustainability Report," published on the 2nd, 57% of H&M Group's total fashion materials were recycled or sustainable last year.
The ratio increased every year to 20 percent in 2015, 26 percent in 2016, and 35 percent in 2017, and plans to use 100 percent of recyclable and sustainable materials by 2030. In the case of cotton used by H&M, 95 percent of the total is recycled or sustainable.
"Consumption has soared due to a rise in the global population, and it has already exceeded the level of the earth to handle," said Carl-Yohan Persson, CEO of H&M, in a report. "I am confident that continuing eco-friendly management with sincerity will help lead the sustainable fashion industry."
The biggest problem with the overconsumption of clothing due to the growth of the global fast fashion market is environmental destruction. The fiber used in fast fashion is a low-priced "polyester."

Polyester, a plastic, emits three times as much carbon as cotton fiber in the manufacturing process. Also, when washing clothes, fine plastic pieces fall off and flow into the sea to accelerate marine pollution.
The amount of ultra-polar plastic discharged from clothing washing alone amounts to 500,000 tons per year. This is equivalent to 50 billion plastic bottles.
According to data released by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in November 2017, less than 1 percent of the total is recycled worldwide.
Fashion designer Vivian Westwood emphasized the expansion of sustainable fashion, saying, "Fashion is about buying less, choosing good things, and making them last long."
