Budweiser beer, produced using solar power!

According to European Supermarket Magazine on the 2nd, Budweiser's parent company and the world's largest beer maker, AB InBev, has signed an agreement with European renewable energy company Lightsource BP to use solar energy in its brewing facilities in the UK.

Under the agreement with AB InBev, Light Source BP plans to produce 100MW of electricity needed to produce beer through solar power generation. 100MW is the amount of electricity that 18,000 households can use at the same time.

Solar power will be sent and absorbed into the UK's Power Grid at the end of next year and will be used to produce beer at breweries in South Wales and Lancashire, AB InBev's Budweiser UK production base. Only two plants produce 17 million cans of beer a week.

AB InBev is seeking to switch to 100 percent renewable energy. It declared in early 2017 that it would convert all power used in its production facilities around the world into renewable energy sources such as solar energy by 2025.

To that end, 75 to 85 percent of the company's electricity used will be purchased and secured by purchasing renewable energy power, while the remaining 15 to 25 percent will be supplied by installing solar panels at the factory site.

OB Beer, a subsidiary of AB InBev, also plans to realize 100 percent renewable energy use without a hitch in line with its parent company's eco-friendly policy. Currently, an investigation is underway into the construction of solar energy facilities at the site of a local production plant.

"Beyond the business and economic value of renewable energy, AB InBev believes that the use of renewable energy is essential," said Nicholas Ingels, executive director of OB Beer, at the launch ceremony of the National Assembly's Renewable Energy Initiative in November last year. "We believe that the use of renewable energy should be prevented through the use of renewable energy regardless of who leads it."

Meanwhile, there is a growing public opinion in the UK that companies should pay attention to environmental protection, such as minimizing food waste and activating recyclables.

An official from the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. (aT) said, "Birdweiser's solar-powered beer production is interpreted as a result of being aware of such public opinion," adding, "It is also affecting the production methods and new product launches of other food companies such as Coca-Cola and Nestle."
